Diamonds are fairly popular in the Western world. Many of us who live here have had the chance to at least see a diamond. From the time we’re little, we are exposed to the wonders of diamonds. We look on with awe and wonder at those shiny clear circles that sit atop of women’s engagement rings. A lot of us may even dream of being able to have one one day, so we cross our fingers and hope that “one day” comes sooner rather than later.
We’re amazed with the outward appearances of diamonds, but did you know how durable they really are? Diamonds just so happen to be the hardest mineral known to man. They even have a ten out of ten score on the Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness! One of the reasons diamonds are used in engagement rings and earrings and necklaces is because they are so durable. You can wear it everyday and do all of the running around that you have to do from day to day and not have to worry about having it break or smash.
If an inanimate object is that kind of strong then human beings must be next to invincible. Right?
I mean just think about it…
How many times have you gone through a really difficult experience? I’m sure it wasn’t just once or twice. They’ve probably happened to you more times than you can count. But even if you’re one of the lucky ones who haven’t experienced too much hardship, you still probably have gone through some pretty tough moments in your life time. And if you seriously sit down and think about these moments, you’ll realize that you’ve gotten through all of them.
You may not have come out of it right a way, but you have definitely always made it out on the other side. The things you go through in your life may be hard at times, but you’re still here positive thinker because you’re strong. If you weren’t strong you would have broken down easily like one of the minerals that have a one out of ten ranking on the Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness. You wouldn’t’ve been able to be put back together because if you had a ranking of one you would have been too far gone after you were broken to become whole again.
One of the reasons a diamond is a ten out of ten on the Mohs Scale is because the only mineral that can cut a diamond is a diamond. A mineral has to be pretty strong if the only mineral that cut it is another mineral that is exactly like it. And once again, if an inanimate object is this strong then human beings have the capacity to be this kind of strong too (if not stronger) because we are living, breathing beings with higher faculties and capabilities than a diamond.
Like I’ve said before, nobody on the face of the planet earth is exactly like you. There are people out there who may be similar to you, but you are an individual! And since human beings are stronger than diamonds, and since diamonds are broken by things that are exactly like them, you shouldn’t allow other people or things to have the power to break you down completely because they aren’t you. Other people and circumstances will hurt you in your life, but you have to allow yourself to have the strength to not let them have power over you. You know how much you’re worth positive thinker, and it’s a lot! If someone doesn’t think that then that’s their problem, but you shouldn’t let them break you down because diamonds don’t allow other minerals to break them down. Diamonds don’t allow it, so neither should you, because, in case you didn’t know it, you are much more valuable than a diamond.
If there was a scale for human durability we would all have a ten out of ten because we’ve all been through some tough things, and we’ve all bounced back each time. Our physical bodies may become less durable as time goes on, but our mental durability tends to grow with age. When we are younger we may think that it’s the end of the world if we don’t get our way, but as we get older we learn that things don’t always go our way and that we need to be able to accept these things and move on to the next thing. So next time you find yourself facing a tough situation, remember that you will get through it because you’re a ten out of ten on the scale for human durability!
