Confidentiality

As a client in a therapeutic relationship, you have the right to expect and receive a professional relationship in our work together.
The State of California and the National Association of Social Workers code of ethics, in general, protects the confidentiality between a client and a psychotherapist as the nature of therapy relies on the development of trust in the work between client and therapist. However, there are some situations in which your therapist is required by law to release information you have disclosed to assure your safety and the safety of others.

These exceptions are as follows:

  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s.

  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself
  • A judge court orders information to be released

Should any of the above circumstances occur, we will make every effort to discuss the situation with our clients so that their rights to privacy are understood and protected. It is of great importance that the trust be maintained in our therapeutic relationship and we will do our best to keep your information safe and private.
